Every girl has that one thing she will not do. No matter how hard times get. No matter how little money she has. No matter what…there is that one thing she will refuse to do.

Ian Ferguson was that for me.

Working for one of the world’s most eligible billionaires taught me many things: I can tell the difference between BCBG and Balenciaga. I know how much mileage I can put into my Jimmy Choos before I have to get another pair. I know when Ian was in a good mood and when I should get the hell out of dodge.

Working for Ian also taught me…I can’t separate my personal feelings from our professional relationship.

Lady luck and a killer bod was on my side, though. Amateur night at the local strip club taught Ian I was no longer the desperate college student he met a few years ago, but a grown-ass woman with grown-ass needs. And honestly, I think he already knew that but never acted on it.

I just hope this experiment is worth the effort from both of us. He’s got me feeling some type of way…

Excerpt:

I wished she were ugly.

I wished she were fat.

I wished she had a big-ass pimple that was dead center on her face.

I wished Sydney Walker were the most hideous woman I’d ever seen in my life.

Instead, I was met with one of the most gorgeous women I had ever seen.

And just my luck, she was Ian’s new crush muse.

As I walked around with Sydney and showed her the Ferguson, I was insanely jealous of her. She spoke in a smoky yet seductive voice and had a big, beautiful smile.

I could see why Ian was completely enamored with her. I could also see why I hated her ass from the jump.

“So this is the Lula Jean room?” Sydney asked as we entered the room. She looked around and was astounded by how big the room was. “This is incredible!”

Ian decided Sydney was going to make her debut in the room of all rooms. Yeah, that was intentional. “It is. He’s a huge fan of your work.” And of you.

Sydney turned to me and flashed that smile again. Oh, why did she have to be beautiful? Shit! “I seriously cannot thank you enough, Dominique! You’re the reason for me being here!”

You’re the reason I’m going to eventually sleep with your man. Jealous, bitch? It’s funny how I know that’s not what she said but somehow my brain translated that she did. Weird. “Anything to help you.”

Sydney gave me a big, bear hug and I hugged her back. Gosh, I wish I could hate her. Even if her and Ian do hook up, I sincerely liked her more than the others. She would be good with Ian.

What in the hell am I saying? I would be good with Ian.

I heard the door opened and saw Ian walked in with a beaming smile. He made a beeline towards both of us with an equally big smile, complete with dimples. Ugh, she even brought out his dimples.

“How are you ladies doing today?” He asked us. “Getting along well?”

“Yeah, I was just showing Sydney around the Ferguson,” I mentioned to Ian, “I showed her everything in the Gallery and even a few things I forgot about. I was about to mention how this would be a great venue for her and Dean to get married.” My eyes cut to Ian. Yes, Ian, the woman you want is engaged to another man and you will deal.

Ian read the look on my face with one of his own. “I’m sure she’ll make a beautiful bride.” He turned to Sydney. “If you’re free, I would like to discuss more of your residency over lunch?”

“Sure!” Sydney beamed. “Thanks for everything, Dominique.”

“She’s great, isn’t she?” Ian winked at me.

Yeah, I’m so great….great at being an absolute doormat.

When Dominique met Sydney…

Unedited Excerpt:

“I want to see if everything is okay with us,” he explained, “it seems you’ve been distant lately and I wonder if I played a part in that?”

“Would it matter if you did?” The boldness of three glasses of wine came out. “What difference would it make? I’m just sweet girl “Domi” you just take to galas, remember?”

Ian chuckled at me. I hated the feelings that arise in me when I hear his baritone voice. I want to sock him before I blow him. “Now we’re getting somewhere.”

I have nothing to lose and I don’t give a… “You like her,” I mentioned it to Ian.

“Sydney?” He asked and I nodded. “She’s a beautiful talent. I see her doing a lot of things.”

“No, you liked her as in you wanted to date her,” I pointed out. It was clear to everyone but Ian he’d taken a personal interest in Sydney. I was jealous as all shit but what could I do? I was just nice Domi to him. “You bought her a million-dollar loft.”

“It was a wedding present to her and her fiancée,” Ian countered. “He’s the owner of it now.”

Ian played a not-so small role in the breakup of Sydney and Dean. He also played a major role in getting them back together. Something tells me if Dean and Sydney had not reconciled, Ian and Sydney would’ve been in that loft.

Actually, correction; Sydney and Ian were already in that loft. I’m pretty sure they had sex. I’m also pretty sure Ian dumped her the moment he got what he wanted.

A sweeping emotion of pure jealousy erupted inside of me, though I kept my composure. That’s what he does – he wants to see how fast he could get into your panties and once he does, he’ll discard you once he’s done.

Yet, for two years…for two painfully long years, Ian never tried to sleep with me. Despite the numerous cuddle sessions…despite the Rolls Kiss…despite all of that, he never once made a move on me.

Ian looked at the sky and rubbed his chin. “I knew it wouldn’t work. We connected on a level that neither one of us has ever had with anyone else.” He began and I tried very hard to keep my tears at bay. “Once things become personal, it’s hard to separate it from professional.” His eyes met mine as he said it. Okay, so his ass was talking about me. Well, fuck you, too, bitch. “Would I have dated her? Probably. Would it have worked out? No.”

“But you’re still going to try with others, aren’t you?” I mentioned. Why do I do this to myself?

Ian briefly glanced down as he contemplated his answer. He knew whatever he said was going to hurt and he carefully chose his words. “Whatever happens in my life, you’ll always benefit from it.”

How in the hell would I benefit from him sleeping with someone who’s not me? How have I benefitted from that the last couple of years? You know what? Fuck it. He just told me I was good enough to accompany him to those boring-ass galas where my real date of Emma was waiting for me.

Ian wants me to get over him, he doesn’t need to tell me twice. “Okay.” I replied. I stood up and straightened out my shirt. I need to go to wash my face, go to bed, and just do whatever the hell I need to do to get the absolute hell away from him now. “I’ll see you later, Ian.”

“Domi?” He called out my name and I stopped walking. “I came over to spend the night with you.”

I turned around to face him. Now I’m full of liquor and my tongue is quicker. “I hate that you think you can waltz into my life like shit never happened between us and I’m supposed open my arms and legs to you like a Snuggie?” I yelled. “Whatever! Bye, Felicia!”

“Domi, I respect you more than any woman in my life, only second to my mother and that’s a pretty high ranking for anyone. I don’t expect to sleep with you but if it happens, well, yes, that would be pretty awesome.” Ian added. “Second, who’s Felicia?”

“It’s a saying…” I gesticulated. “….like have you ever seen Friday?”

“Friday?” Ian shrugged.

“You know, Ice Cube? Chris Tucker?” I looked in his eyes for any validation and it was a blank slate. “Deebo? Big Worm?”

“Now, I recognize the first two but the last ones?” He asked. “Are these peoples’ real names?”

Unedited Snippet:

“I’ve never masturbated,” I admitted. I don’t know why the thought makes me ashamed. I’m sure there are a lot of women who’ve never masturbate at all and they have happy sex lives. I’m also pretty sure the same people still use VCRs.

“You should. You’ll get to know your body very well.” Ian replied. “You’ll find out what you like and don’t.”

The thought of fingering myself didn’t sound appeasing to me. Nor did sticking some foreign apparatus in me. “Okay.”

I felt Ian’s glare as I became lost into my thoughts. He wasn’t convinced I wouldn’t do the homework he’d assigned. The look on his face was hard to read. He was either frustrated or…determined.

He got up and went back to his bedroom, only to reappear a short time later. He had some large device in his hand I would later discover was the Hitachi. “Come here,” he ordered me.

I walked up to Ian and he hoisted me up on the counter. He reached up my dress and pulled down my panties, tossing them aside. His eyes had a devilish twinkle in them as if he knew he was up to no good and wanted me to come along for the ride. Somehow, I didn’t think I would mind riding shotgun (his).

He kissed me, sweeping his lips across mine before he softly played with my tongue. “Spread your legs,” he commanded and I complied. “Look at me.”

I held his gaze. His blue eyes were intense, his nostrils were slightly flared, and an erotic current flowed between us. I had a feeling he didn’t want me to look anywhere else and I wasn’t about to disobey him. It was so hot.

He turned on the Hitachi and placed it on my sex and I immediately yelped. “Take it,” he softly spoke. “Keep your eyes open and focused on mine.”

I nodded and bit my lip as the pleasure coursed through my body. He dragged the vibrator against my opening and held it there. It was intense. It was wild. It was everything.

He turned the vibrator onto a higher speed and I moaned, calling out his name as I wrapped my arms around his neck. I obeyed him; I didn’t remove my eyes from his. I felt every emotion and energy exchange between us like never before. He took me to a higher plain, to something unknown and erotic.

My sex fluttered on the first taste of climax. “Ian…” My voice came out light and wispy. “I’m about to come.”

“I know,” his authoritative voice drove me wild with lust, “I want to see how many times you’re going to.” He increased the speed again and I shrieked with a muffled cry as the orgasm washed over my body. “Good. That’s one.”

His lips crushed mine as he closed the distance between us. My sex thumped against the Hitachi and I squirmed on his counter. His lips trailed down to my neck and gently sucked on it while my arms wrapped around his neck. “Ian…Ian…” My legs uncontrollably shook and it felt like I had no control of anything anymore.

It was part of Ian’s game. He wanted to be in absolute control, a silent power exchange that only needed to be understood and not spoken aloud. I couldn’t get enough of it.

“Seeing you come is so beautiful,” Ian moaned against my ear, “you don’t know what it does to me to see you in such pleasure created by me.”

Coherent sentences simply couldn’t come out of me. I felt the heat rise in my belly. I trembled, heavily breathed, and squirmed on the counter. I was actually trying not to come again but my body betrayed me.

The orgasm ripped through my body like a current and this time I screamed out Ian’s name. Sweat formed on my body and my legs finally stopped buckling. It was so good and we were finally done.

That’s what I thought until I felt Ian turned the vibrator onto the highest setting. Apparently, we weren’t done. Not by a long shot.

Feeling Some Type of Way will be available on December 13th. Pre-order information will be posted soon. It’ll be available on All Romance, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Smashwords, and select libraries.

So yeah, about Breakaway…

It was a hard decision to make, ending the series on Book Five, Scoring Chance. There is a valid reason (at least to me) on why I’m ending the series but I don’t like beating a dead horse.

I’m at peace with everything. While, this is the third series I had to end for the same reason, it’s the first completed one so I’m content. There’s no remorse or longing to finish a story; it’s done! And on top of it, Sydney and Dean have a HEA.

It’s the first story to put me in a pretty big spotlight and the series made me fall back in love with writing. I’m forever grateful to Sydney and Dean. They will always be my baes.

I did receive interest for Ian and Dominique to have their own story, so that’s something I’m putting some serious thought into.

Book Updates:

  • For the time being, the State of Affairs series is scheduled to be a five-book series. I guess I’ll have to see how Book Two does before I contemplate a Book Three and so on. If Book Two does well, Book Three will be out in a couple months. If Book Two doesn’t do well, it all ends there.
  • In terms of the other series – S&M and D’Amato Brothers – I’ll start working on S&M IV, Part 2. That book will focus more on Scott’s and Mariana’s other relationships, so the cover might be not interracial, but intra-racial.
  • There’s going to be a major character’s death in the D’Amato Brothers series. It’s a character people either love or hate. I personally won’t miss this character but I don’t know if others will feel the same way.
  • My YA, the Soul Infinity Crew, is finally coming out in December! More than likely, I won’t promote it on here (this is an erotic/romantic book blog) but I’ll talk about it on my FB page, tumblr, and twitter. I’m super jazzed for that! That’s been many long years in the making.
  • I’ve been asked how come I don’t do standalone books and honestly, my standalones for whatever reason, just don’t do well. I’m a series writer. I guess that’s what God wants me to be, LOL.

So yeah, that’s pretty much it. I hope you’re all doing wonderful and great.

Stay Beautiful and Blessed,

-V.

#TeaserTuesday: Scoring Chance COVER REVEAL!

And now for Book V:

Scoring Chance 1400x2100

I should note that just like Power Play, Scoring Chance is also a standalone novel. You don’t have to read the prior books to understand what’s going on, though they would help with some context.

Scoring Chance will be out September 6th.

“Now this…this right here…this is King Jeffrey.”

Sydney glanced up at the monstrous toy stuffed giraffe. “You big.”

Demand of Sydney’s work generated buzz throughout L.A. because of her preview and she scored her first high-profile client – Major League Baseball’s pitcher king, Quinn “The Answer” Riordan.

Quinn was an enigma of sorts. He came from the armpit of Kentucky where all he knew were ranches and cows. He gained his muscular physique by being a farmhand and thought gyms were a waste of money. He saw no issue drinking a protein shake as he snacked on McDonald’s fries. He would head-bang to Metallica before he serenaded a sweet song by the Backstreet Boys a minute later and ending his set by spitting bars from his favorite Drake album.

And then there were his quirks. He loved Legos so much, he had an entire room in his palatial estate just for them. His obsession with giraffes carried through to adulthood and while he didn’t want to own one, he made it a point to visit the zoo on a bi-weekly basis to look at them in person. His Instagram feed was full of him cheesing next to giraffes at various zoos all over the world.

On the diamond, however, Quinn was a beast. His 21-year-old arm didn’t show signs of slowing down anytime soon as he averaged 90 mph. No batter could ever prepare for him and he was notorious to switch it up and create new pitches just to psyche out his opponents.

He was called “The Answer” due to a now-infamous interview response:

“When the batter steps up to that plate, they ask me a question. They never mouth it, they never actually say it, but they do suggestive things like point their bat to the sky behind me, or give me a wink. You know what that question is? Do you think you’re going to strike me out? And of course, I always give them a deafening answer.”

And he was Sydney’s new client.

Get to know Quinn Riordan in Scoring Chance.

His standalone story will be out in a few months.

“I’m cutting my hair and dying it,” he turned down the stereo, “something different.”

“You’re what?” She questioned. “What color and why in the hell are you ruining my fantasy?”

“Your fantasy is right here,” he chuckled, “something different. Dying it a darker color. Just something different for once.”

“You’re honestly going to keep that up during the season?” She asked. “That’s a lot of upkeep.”

“It’s for Nike,” he replied, “they want me to do an ad where different sides of me are being shown. Kinda like a stripped down and naked type of venture. Everyone keeps talking about my hair and my eyes and we thought it would be fun to do something different. Freak people out a little.” He glanced over at her. She still wasn’t sold on the idea. “I see it’s working.”

“They have wigs, you know?” She ran her fingers through his hair. It was as soft as corn silk and just as shiny. “You don’t have to cut and dye it!”

“It’ll grow back, Syd.”

“That’s what they all say,” she shook her head, “and then you’re going to be channeling your inner Britney Spears meltdown and shave it all off before you beat up a poor van with a defenseless umbrella.”

“And what the hell?” Dean laughed and Sydney joined in. He wagged an index finger at her. “No more pop music for you!”

Sydney touched Dean’s thigh and he moved his hand on top of hers. He gave it a quick squeeze before moving her hand to his lips and gave it a soft kiss. Things felt right.

They felt…normal.

“Can you pull over?” She asked.

“Is everything okay?” He glanced over.

“Just pull over,” she shook her head.

“Okay,” Dean signaled right and pulled over on the side of the road. He watched Sydney unbuckle and get out of her seat. He turned off the truck and followed suit. “What’s up?”

Sydney felt her heart pound through her chest. She shook out her hands because the stress tightened the limbs. She spoke so fast, she competed with Mellie from Scandal. “I had sex with Ian when we broke up. It was just sex and he was the one that encouraged us to get back together. He’s going to be my manager but I swear nothing else will ever happen between us. I just wanted to get this off my chest because you’re talking about us having a new start, and you just played one of my all-time favorite Prince songs, and I started thinking about us having babies and you’re teaching our son, Bobby, how to play hockey. And I’m teaching our daughter, Betty, how to paint. And we live back in your big ol’ beach house and we go to the ocean during the weekends, and we have cookouts with my family, because Black people do cookouts and not BBQs, and I just was thinking about our future and I needed to get everything off my chest so we can have one!” She finally exhaled a deep breath.

Dean blinked at his ex-girlfriend as he processed what she just revealed. He only had one question, “Bobby and Betty?”

I’m not really a fan of those names either, Syd.

Scoring Chance (Breakaway V) will be out the week of September 1st.

Book News & Updates

Hello family!

I hope you’re doing well on this lovely August day. Can you believe it’s August? OMG. So crazy, huh?  I just enrolled Bear into preschool the other day! Yeah, preschool! So crazy!

Enough small talk and chatter, let’s get down to business on book release updates:

  • Scoring Chance (Breakaway series V): This book was going to be delayed a bit but I’m thinking about pushing it back up to the original release of September.
  • Untitled baseball story (Quinn Riordan): This character was introduced in The Ex-Factor, though he didn’t have a speaking role. I’m still outlining his story and it should be out soon.
  • War (D’Amato Brothers VI): Still can’t believe I’m on a sixth book of this family.  I’m still debating when this book will come out (originally set for Thanksgiving) but the content of the book tells me otherwise so it might be pushed back to beginning of next year. I strongly suggest to those who are emotionally invested in the Faith and Eli trilogy, to not try to predict what will happen. There are three potential conclusions and I’m solidly favoring one of them.
  • Book Two of State of Affairs: I’m still gauging reaction. The reaction has been positive so far. I do encourage you to leave a review because I often gauge interest by that as well. (More reviews, books and series tend to come out sooner…*hint, hint*)
  • Way Back Now (Contemporary, sensual May-December romance): Very little interest in this story so I won’t pursue it now. It’ll probably be a soft release later this year.
  • Jackson & Liane Book Three (Untitled): As I mentioned in a previous post, this book will be a soft release and I won’t promote it at all. It’ll just show up on Amazon, All Romance, Smashwords, Barnes & Noble, etc sometime this month of August.

As always, I respectfully decline all group discussions and invites nor will I be starting up another group discussion.

That’s it! I should have at least four more books out by the end of the year. Very busy here.

Stay beautiful and blessed! xoxoxo

-V.

P.S. Oh, one last thing…

The Ex-Factor Medium

Something involving this couple might be out later this year. We’ll see what it is! 🙂

Power Play Update

powerplay-m

Hello family!

How are you? I hope you’re doing well.

Just giving you all a quick update on Power Play. The editing and rewriting has been going painstakingly slow on this one. For other stories, it’s not a bad thing and it’s not really a bad thing for this one. I had one original ending that I wasn’t sure if I liked it and had another one that was a bit too dramatical for even my taste, so I finally decided on a perfect ending and the lead-in to the next book in the series.

However, it does mean I have to delay the story by a couple of days. So, it won’t be released tomorrow (5/16) as originally promised (boo!) but it’ll be released this week  (yay!).

Since it is the fourth book in the series, the second book will be lowered to 99 cents, the third will be dropped to $2.99 and the remaining books in the series will be priced around $3.49 and will be the same length here on out. (The first book is free.)

prince-purple-rain

Now for the exciting news – if you’ve followed me throughout my career, you would know how much influence Prince has had on my writing and creativity. So, in honor of him, I mention quite things regarding the Purple Yoda in the book. Seven is my favorite number so for the first 7 people to figure out all Prince-related things in Power Play will get a free copy of the next book in the Breakaway series, due out later this year. I should note, while a few things are obvious, quite a few aren’t and you have to be a diehard Prince fan to spot all of the mentions. I should also note, it’s more than seven.

Alrighty, then. Thank you so much for your love and support and most importantly, your patience! Stay beautiful and blessed, fam.

-V.

spoiler alert:

“You know it’s funny…” he gave a small chuckle. “…nowadays, I even started watching those horrible indy movies on Netflix because I know you like them. I walk all over my home, see little touches of you inside, and smile because it’s uniquely you. I find myself randomly singing Starfish and Coffee because it’s one of your favorite songs. I even play better because of you. You were always my biggest cheerleader even when I had a horrible game. I guess I didn’t realize how much of you was inside me and inside this…” He softly gesticulated. “…to realize how much of an effect you had on me. I see you in everything and in everybody. I have to say I’ve gotten a lot smarter since our breakup. Maybe not with my brain but definitely with my heart. I had to learn the hard way that sometimes the best things in life truly are free. I’m gasoline but you’re the match. You’re the world to me and I’ll do anything to get you back in my life.”

Sydney wiped a small fallen tear off her cheek. “So, is this how it works? We fall in love and then fall apart?”

Dean stepped closer to his former love and kissed her forehead. “And then fall back in love again.”
